Course structure

The course is designed to be completed as a module that is part of the suite of governance training courses. However, boards can access individual topic modules as needed.

These short courses can be undertaken by individual board members, or be completed as a board together. The modules are kept short so boards can fit the training into their busy board calendars.

The training builds on the materials covered in the Board Induction Course, and this is a useful pre-requisite to the other governance modules.

Outcomes

As a result of participating in this course, participants will understand:

·        The role and purpose of the board

·        What ‘due diligence’ is

·        The difference between governance and operations

·        How delegations to the principal can be clear and why this is important

·        The importance of asking governance questions

·        The source and purpose of the board’s authority and its limits.
